Illuay is a young Weyr situated at the far Western Reaches of the Southern Continent. Its creation was spurred on by the Lord Holder of Illuay Hold who both discovered and founded a hold there. He convinced an ambitious young gold rider to bring a small contingent of followers to the area and take up residency in the tropical region where creatures and plants unlike any found elsewhere on Pern can be seen.
Neither the Holds, Illuay or Vivaste, nor the Weyr have any support from the rest of Pern.
However, two turns ago, shortly after her clutch hatched, the queen and her rider were killed during Thread Fall along with several other riders of the Weyr. Her young daughter now vies for control against the Weyrleader who does not want to give up his position and against the rider of one of the new colors that was sent there - an Iron.
The Weyr has no support from the other Dragon Riders of Pern, and in fact, they have sent what they did not want there hoping to spite them. The five dragons of new colors. Blood, Iron, and Purple. No one knows what will come of these three colors. But no Weyr has dared offer any help. No Weyr will.
Danger lurks around every corner. With Thread falling and an unseen killer taking human and animal life alike, Illuay still has much to discover.
