Aivas’ time was over 4000 years ago. Pern became a far different place then what the tales of old once said about brave dragonmen and women rising to the sky on their winged beasts to flame Thead from the sky. Dragons became nothing but beasts of burden. As the age of computers returned, the Pernese paid less and less attention to what was happening around them as they lay waste to their own natural resources. Things went downhill quickly; food resources were low. Many turned to the profit of the dragon egg... And soon, the very meat of the actual dragon. Times were getting that desperate.
The dragonriders did the only thing they could to retreat from the wastelands and the hunting of their kind... They went underground.
